The Spoken Word

Passages drawn from the sermons and published works that carry this theme forward.

  1. 1856·Jedediah M. Grant·Apostle
One time in Nauvoo, some English brethren did not like to eat corn bread, and one of them says to another, just before partaking of some, "Are you going to ask a blessing? I am not going to thank God for nothing else but corn bread, potatoes, and salt." Brethren, those feelings should not be, we ought to be happy and shake off the blues, no difference what we may be called to pass through, but let us have the light of the Lord, the channel of inspiration open, that the light of truth may break in upon our understandings, that we may be rich in faith and in good works.

  3. 1979·N. Eldon Tanner·Apostle
Another example of the protection which comes from the whole armor of God is found in the life of Joseph who was sold into Egypt (see Gen. 37 ; 39–47 ). From his youth he was a faithful and true young man, always keeping the commandments of God.

  4. 1984·Neal A. Maxwell·Apostle
There were determined detractors then, mocking the faith of believers, briefly creating “a great uproar,” even rejoicing over the seeming prospect that the faith of Christ’s followers would be in vain. (See 3 Ne. 1:5–7 .) It was not. Members kept the faith, and the faith kept them!

  5. 1994·Boyd K. Packer·Apostle
Parents are provided with excellent materials for teaching their children, with a promise that the faithful will be blessed.

  6. 2002·Joseph B. Wirthlin·Apostle
Today I ask a question the Savior asked nearly 2,000 years ago: “When the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?”
