The Spoken Word
Passages drawn from the sermons and published works that carry this theme forward.
1961·Alvin R. Dyer·Apostle
I have felt since the opening and challenging remarks of President McKay that if a phrase could be given to set the theme of this conference, and I am not trying to set it, but to me it is something like this, that we should put on the whole armor of God and be prepared for the important days that are ahead of us. And if perchance we have not put on the whole armor, then we now bave this challenge again from our
1967·Harold B. Lee·Apostle
While sacrament meeting attendance rose from 21 percent in 1921 to 36 percent in 1965, we appear to have hit a plateau. We are not advancing from that 36 percent. It was too big even to think about. The technical challenge alone was staggering, to say nothing of maintaining accuracy, harmony, and consistency with the biblical text itself. It could not be done!
1992·Gordon B. Hinckley·Apostle
You of this generation, this chosen generation, this royal priesthood, this holy nation, you of this peculiar people—you cannot with impunity follow practices out of harmony with values you have been taught. I challenge you to rise above the sordid elements of the world about you.
1997·Russell M. Nelson·Apostle
Sometimes the need to endure comes when facing a physical challenge. Anyone afflicted with a serious illness or with the infirmities of age hopes to be able to endure to the end of such trials. Most often, intense physical challenges are accompanied by spiritual challenges as well.
